Gout Leaders Best Practice Forum
Challenging attitudes | Inspiring change
The Gout Leaders Best Practice Forum is created to do the following three things:
CHALLENGE THE ATTITUDES: The perception of gout as a serious condition which affects patients’ quality of life and requires support and guidance to ensure effective management; challenging misconceptions about the ‘gluttonous’ nature of the condition.
KNOWLEDGE: Appreciation of the need to look beyond clinical and symptomatic diagnosis to the ‘underlying’ disease, and to utilise available techniques to achieve an early definitive diagnosis for timely and appropriate treatment choices.
SKILLS: Implementation of optimal long-term, treat-to-target management options and sUA testing to ensure that patients receive appropriate treatments and monitoring; provision of disease management and lifestyle advice to ensure patient self-management and adherence to treatment.
